MARKETHILL FREE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

The origins of the Free Presbyterian Church in Markethill rest in a mission conducted by the Reverend Harry Cairns of Omagh in 1982. Following this mission a congregation was formed in October 1983, under the leadership of student minister David Smith. For the following five years, he provided pastoral care for the new church.

The congregation was formally constituted on December 28th 1985. After much prayer and practical planning a site was acquired on the Tandragee Road just outside the town. The first sod was cut on November 12th 1988 and the building work continued under the direction of new minister, Rev.David McLaughlin.

The church was formally opened and consecrated by the Rev. Ian Paisley on September 12th 1992.

On 5th July 1996, Reverend Thomas Murray was inducted to the charge of the church and it continues to grow and mature.

Currently (2014), the minister is Rev. James Porter.
