THE TOWNLAND OF BALLYARGAN

The townland of Ballyargan is in the parish of Ballymore in Armagh County. It is labelled number 4 on the map. J030415

The Environment and Heritage Service Sites and Monuments Record (2002) notes the following in this townland:

The site appears to have been a circular platform but the NE side has been removed to make way for a farm track. The surviving D-shaped feature has been divided by field bank & N of this an orchard grows within the site. The interior is level & defined by a scarp falling c.2.5m on NW, but only c.1.2m to the S as the natural ground level rises. The site is c.52m in diam NW-SE. At WNW & SW there are clear indications of an outer revetment of dry stone walling. No trace of a ditch or an entrance.
