The 1826 Schools Commission report describes the school in the townland:
"Ballymarran - A pay school under the care of Matthew Donaldson, of the Church of Ireland denomination, who was in receipt of 4l per annum. The school was held in a cabin built at a cost of 5l. The school provided education for 24 scholars."

A circular "Fort" c.35m in diameter is marked on the 1835 OS 6" map. It was located on the N end of a low drumlin overlooking a small valley. All that now survives is a very faint rise in a field of improved pasture.

The SW field boundary beyond the area marked on the 1835 6"map may be part of a larger enclosure. It consists of a silted outer ditch & an over grown bank. The level of "Kirk field" is markedly higher than the field to W leaving a scarp face 0.85m high. The bank is 2m wide & 0.4m high, and the ditch is 2.4m wide & 0.5m deep. The site is only marked on the 1835 map, not on any later additions. There are No visible remains within the enclosure. See SM7 file for further details.
