The 1826 Schools Commission report describes the school in the townland:
"Baleek - A pay school under the care of John Stringer, of the Church of Ireland denomination, who was in receipt of 30l per annum. The school was constructed from money provided by Lord Gosford but was under the direction of the Association for Discountenancing Vice. The school provided education for 58 scholars."
