THE TOWNLAND OF CORRINURE

The townland of Corrinure is in the parish of Loughgilly in Armagh County. It is labelled number 14 on the map.

The Environment and Heritage Service Sites and Monuments Record (2002) notes the following in this townland:

An almost level, roughly circular platform 33m N-S x 37m E-W is defined on the SW, S & SE by a steep scarp preserved in a field boundary. The S half of the interior is raised 1.5-1.8m above the exterior & the scarp lessens as the ground rises to N. This was the more vulnerable side & is defended by a short length of stony bank 3.5m wide, 1.2m high & 1.4m above natural ground level. There are no obvious indications of a ditch, but the darker green grass around the SW may suggest such a feature.
