THE TOWNLAND OF DAMOILY

The townland of Damoily is in the parish of Kilclooney in Armagh County. It is labelled number 12 on the map.

The Environment and Heritage Service Sites and Monuments Record (2002) notes the following in this townland:

CONDITION: SOME REMAINS
"A small oval enclosure, 20m N-S x 1 7m E-W is defined by an irregular bank 1-1.Sm high and up to 4m wide. Gorse bushes obscure most of the site, but a quantity of stone, visible in disturbed parts of the bank, suggests that this was a cashel rather than a rath. This is perhaps supported by the apparent absence of a ditch. A gap 4m wide on the SE side of the enclosure may mark the original entrance.
