THE TOWNLAND OF DRUMINARGAL

The townland of Druminargal is in the parish of Ballymore in Armagh County. It is labelled number 25 on the map.

Paterson (Armachiana, Vol. 16, p.21) notes:

Drum (Druim) [meaning 'ridge'] is one of the most common names and figures as a prefix to about 2,400 places besides an equal number in which it is combined.

The Environment and Heritage Service Sites and Monuments Record (2002) notes the following in this townland:

This large circular earthwork has been levelled on N & W sides & only a gentle scarp remains. Elsewhere the perimeter has been preserved by incorporation into the field pattern. The diam. is c.53.5m NE-SW. The interior is level with the ground outside at SW, but the NE half has been raised considerably. A bank 3m wide x 1.2m high encloses the SE becoming lower to S & NE. Most of the S side is surrounded by a ditch 3.5m wide x 1 m deep. NE the bank has been reduced & a scarp falls 2.5m to the base of the ditch.
