A circular "Fort" c.30m in diam. is shown on the 1835 OS 6" map, but by the time of the 1863 edition, it was reduced to "Site of Fort". It was located on quite a steep E-facing slope above a small stream which forms the townland boundary but nothing is visible except for a hint of a circular crop mark indicated a filled-in ditch.

The name Shaneglish (old church) suggests that there may have been an early ecclesiastical site within the townland, but there are No visible remains & no known documentary references. There is, however, a strong local tradition of a graveyard & this may be a pointer to an early church site. The traditional graveyard is located on the relatively flat summit of a hill with excellent views S, E & NE, but there are no visible remains. BIBLIOGRAPHY:
